Dubai
police was
set up during
the late 1960's.
A modern police
establishment
became essential
as a result
of the societal
development
that followed
the discovery
of oil.
Making
a society
aware of its
moral responsibilities
is a sure
way to curb
crime and
undesirable
behaviour
in the individual.
The General
Directorate
of Moral Guidance
was established
in this regard.
The
importance
of religious
awareness
is obvious.
Dubai police
has therefore
established
the General
Directorate
of Moral Guidance.
This Department
includes several
sections including
religious
affairs, which
handles the
contact between
the headquarters
and the public
to strengthen
links and
ensure continuity
of cooperation.
Dubai
Police has
paid a lot
of attention
to Public
Relations.
Police officials
have realised
the importance
of the role
played by
public relations
on the interior
and exterior
levels. Since
its inception
in the mid
of 1970, the
section has
played a big
role in deeping
the good relations,
respect and
confidence
among police
staff themselves,
on the one
hand, and
between police
and the public
in general,
on the other
hand.
The
most important
objectives
of the Dubai
Police's Public
Relations
Department
has been to
win the confidence
of the people
and enahancing
the level
of awareness
in the police
work, and
this done
through providing
all necessary
care to members
of the force.
The
department
is run by
a group of
national men
qualified
in the media
field and
a number of
Arab expatriates
who have excellent
experience
in media and
mass communications.
With
the development
that the Dubai
Police have
gone through
in the past
years, the
Public Relations
Department
has become
the important
link between
Dubai Police
and the public,
as well as
with other
police sectors.
In 1984, the
Public Relations
Department
was affiliated
to the General
Directorate
of Planning
and Moral
Guidance,
as planning
public relations
complement
each other
in mapping
out general
policies.
This has materialized
on various
fronts.
